Excerpt –

The desire to break into a run to get to her car was brutally suppressed. It would only draw attention to her and she’d already made a fool of herself once today. What was wrong with her? He was an attorney, he’d handled her closing. She never had to see him again.

And no that was not regret she was feeling. She had no need for a man in her life. No desire either. Besides, he needed a haircut. That little curl that fell down on his forehead wasn’t professional and he hadn’t even put on his coat. Those forearms were still exposed and his shoulders were so broad . . .

Nikki got in the car, locked it behind her and headed toward the house.

He’d been there. He’d driven by to look at it, probably as a favor. It was a nice gesture.  He said he hadn’t gone inside. She’d install new and better locks tomorrow.

Once home she placed the paperwork in the bottom drawer of her bureau, then checked every window and door. All were locked. Maybe she would get a dog.

Maybe one day she wouldn’t feel the need for one.

No, she couldn’t look at it like that. She’d made great progress today. She would get her life back.
